Fri Jul 14 2006Avoid lengthy delays on components!
In response to customer criticism that there are still lengthy delays on parts when ordered through SecretNet, we've added an additional level of display to our site.  By logging in to our customer center, you can now configure whether you would like to hide items which are known to be out of stock at our suppliers or where stock information is not available for that specific supplier.  You can even choose to hide all items that are out of stock at SecretNet. Alternatively, you can make such problem items tagged in red on our listing -- so you know before ordering (or whilst browsing) whether there could be delays on the displayed items.  If this feature greatly helps you, I'd appreciate the feedback.

I should note that this information is already available on our site without a profile.  Simply click the product description for more information including stock information (where available).

Update 17 Jul 2006: This is now the default viewing mode.  Items that are red are out of stock at our supplier.  Items that are a dim red/ruby colour have unknown supplier stock status.  Normal black items are believed to be in stock at our supplier (or at SecretNet if indicated), and have the least expected turnaround time.  Enjoy!

Update 30 Jul 2006: We've changed the order warning screen when you first click on Place Order to now show more relevant information to your current order.  It advises which items we are expecting delays on before you proceed with the order.

In addition, you can now also define whether you would like the Bright (White) or Dark (Black) theme on the Web site through the Customer Center.  Some people may remember that SecretNet was traditionally a dark site, but switched to being a bright/white site a few years ago.  Well, this option actually converts the new site layout into a dark theme.  It's not perfect, and there are still some pages which may have unreadably bright text under the dark theme, but overall it is usable and some may find it more pleasant, especially late at night.
